The wonderful world of water gardening has certainly changed
over the last ten years. Thanks to Aquascape of Chicago for
their innovations in biological filtration, their pond ecosystem
philosophy, 20-step building process and all of the education,
training and technical support they provide. It is not crucial
that our customers know all of the particulars of the equipment
we install or the processes involved but it is important to
know that every water feature Packaged Ponds builds will have
used the very best products from Aquascape.
Decorative Fountainscapes
There’s an incredible array of Decorative Fountainscapes (Bubblers, Gurglers and Spitters) available now to appeal to everybody’s individual tastes and pocketbooks. Aquascape has reinvented the front yard water fountain with spectacular looking, fully contained decorative water feature systems. Customers have so much choice now; Natural rock columns (basalt or other), Resin and fiberglass urns and statuaries, Ceramic pots and vases, Brass spitters and statuaries.
Packaged Ponds now installs complete Decorative Fountainscape Systems for as little as $2,000. Our Decorative fountain systems contain a decorative fountain or your choice, a 4 ft. by 4 ft. wide AquaBasin® water reservoir that sits underground, sized pump and plumbing, LED lighting and decorative rock. It generally takes us less than a day to transform your outdoor space into a beautiful waterscape.

Patios, Retaining Walls and Decorative Structures
When waterscapes, landscapes and hardscapes are interconnected they form a perfect harmony with nature and the surroundings. Our minds will build invisible barriers dissuading us from crossing one threshold to another simply because a pathway doesn’t exist between the two or there isn’t a comfortable rest stop at the destination point. A flower bed or water feature tucked into a corner of your yard may look beautiful but it won’t be fully enjoyed unless you can comfortably get up close and interact with it. Why go to the effort to grow roses if you can’t easily smell their fragrance?
Packaged Ponds now builds select hardscapes to enhance our customer’s outdoor living experiences and to complement our breathtaking “one of a kind” water features. We finally took the plunge into hardscapes in the summer of 2010 when we designed and constructed a 20 ft. long multi-use retaining wall, planter and seating area connected to a 30 ft. by 14 ft. patio with a large water feature at its edge. It is a natural fit for a landscape company that specializes in waterscapes to also landscape the water features and to build hardscapes that allow our customers to more substantially enjoy their outdoor space. Our certified contractors have the experience and dedication to fulfill all your landscaping needs.
The concept of “Outdoor Living Space” has expanded and taken off in the past few years. It is simple logic that if we can expand our creature comforts beyond the physical walls and doorways of our homes that we’ll more thoroughly experience the great outdoors. If our outdoors has some of the same comforts, privacy and intimacy that our homes have we’ll naturally want to be outdoors more often. It is amazing how a column or low wall can transform a simple patio into an outdoor living space and how a couple of colourful cushions placed on a wooden bench can make that bench more comfortable and appealing.

Each year Aquascape introduces new products that help Packaged Ponds improve the services we provide to our customers. Here’s our pick of the best products introduced by Aquascape in the last couple of years:
New for 2011 are the Waterfall Spillway and the Pondless® Waterfall Vault for Pondless® Waterfall applications.
Up until the advancement of the Waterfall Spillway a much larger biological filter was used to build the start of the waterfall. The biological filter is designed for ponds with fish where water quality is of importance but for Pondless® Waterfall applications it was bulky and required close to a ton of boulders to properly disguise it. The greatest benefits of the Waterfall Spillway that will be realized by Packaged Ponds customers are the overall reduced costs to construct most waterfalls and that it is now more cost effective for contractors to take on small Pondless® Waterfall projects for potential customers.
The Pondless® Waterfall Vault has finally arrived! It was designed by contractors and built for contractors. Thank you Aquascape for fixing your weak link in providing quality, professional water gardening products! The Pondless® Waterfall Vault houses the pump and sits underground hidden in the basin of Pondless® Waterfalls and now replaces the old MicroSnorkel™ and MicroCentipede™. The older equipment did their job but tended to bow in on the sides under pressure and couldn’t easily be integrated with other components.
We’re really excited about the new Waterfall Spillway and Pondless® Waterfall Vault because under most applications of the products we’ll be able to reduce overall labour by approximately eight hours and pass the savings on to you!
Aquascape’s High Output LED Lighting has been on the market for three years but it was just last year that Packaged Ponds started installing the lights and the positive feedback from our customers is outstanding! Designed for both underwater and above ground applications to highlight water features, the LED Lighting comes in 1-watt and 3-watt sizes and new to 2011, the 6-watt LED light that has the output equivalent of a 50-watt halogen light. Combined with a transformer and Photocell which automatically turns on the lights from dusk to dawn, Aquascape’s LED Lighting will save 85% to 90% on electrical costs compared to halogen lights.
Aquascape’s Iongen™ System is an Electronic Clarifier for Ponds andPondless® Waterfall Systems that was introduced to the market a few years ago. We were a bit skeptical at first that the Iongen™ System would be effective in providing crystal clear water in ponds especially in Edmonton’s cold climate but it really works! We’ve talked to other contractors and their customers who’ve had the system installed and the feedback is all positive. We will be installing the Iongen™ System on our display pond this spring and offering to install the system to both new and existing pond customers.
Aquascape’s new dispensing system for liquid Water Treatments takes most of the guesswork out for homeowners trying to maintain their ponds. In the past, the biggest problem for homeowners using water treatments to maintain their ponds was “How much treatment do I add?” and inevitably added too little or too much, which either diminished the effect or increased the problem. Problem solved! As long as the homeowner knows how much water the pond typically holds, the new dispensing system on Aquascape’s Water Treatments give the exact amount required. A single pump of their dispensers treats 100 gallons. If you have 800 gallons of water in your pond, you will give 8 pumps of the particular water treatment used. What could be simpler than that? “Peace of mind” is what water gardening is all about!
